After a full day of outdoor activities in Mesa Verde Country®, be sure to experience our evening entertainment and sample our wild west and Native American culture.

NATIVE AMERICAN DANCES and OUTDOOR DRAMA

Each summer in Cortez, the Cortez Cultural Center hosts a variety of Native Americans as they share dances, stories, arts and history with area visitors. Programs start at 7:30 in the evening all days but Sunday, mid-May through the end of August. In May and June, the dances and cultural programs alternate with performances of "Black Shawl," a multi-cultural woman's eye view of Navajo life. The programs are free of charge, and are held rain or shine.

UTE MOUNTAIN CASINO

In the shadow of the Sleeping Ute Mountain is Colorado's first tribal gaming facility just outside the town site of Towaoc, 11 miles south of Cortez on US 160/491. The Casino prides itself on its friendly staff, southwestern hospitality, and state of the art entertainment.

More than 370 slot machines provide hours of gaming fun. The slots include nickel, quarter, dollar, and five dollar machines. The colorful slot machines offer jackpots up to $25,000 and grand prize cars and trucks. Video poker and keno are also featured.

The live blackjack tables can seat more than 50 players, with expansion planned. The dealers provide some exciting moments as you decide to hit or stand. The live poker offers many different games from Texas hold-'em to seven card stud and since players bid against each other there is a winner every hand.

A variety of high stakes bingo games are played five times a week and up to four hundred players can compete for pay outs up to $10,000.

The Ute Mountain Casino is open from 8:00 am to 4:00 am seven days a week. Bets are limited to $5. You must be 18 years old to play bingo, 21 for all other games and free soft drinks are available for the players. Kuchu's, a full service restaurant, is open most gaming hours, offering southwestern style food, tempting deserts, and a friendly atmosphere.

AND COWBOYS TOO!

The Cowboy heritage of the area also provides vacation entertainment. Rodeos, ropings, horse, cow and sheep shows are a typical part of our area life. Check with the local visitor centers for a list of events when you visit.
