Cortez, the archaeological center of America, is the largest community near Mesa Verde National Park and offers the most services for visitors. The town is nestled between the majestic La Plata Mountains, the brooding Sleeping Ute Mountain, and the sharp-hewn silhouette of Mesa Verde.
Dolores is located halfway between Durango and Telluride, where the Dolores River forms McPhee Lake, the second largest body of water in Colorado. With the Dolores River running through town and mountains on both sides of the valley, Dolores is one of the truly unique communities in Colorado.
Mancos, located in the heart of the beautiful Mancos Valley, traces its historic roots back to the ranching, farming, and timber industries that started there in the 1870s. Ranching is still a mainstay in the valley today, and the Western spirit is still alive everywhere you look.
